ASB 2007-2008
ASB Adviser
1. What is Student Congress (ASB)?ASB stands for Associated Student Body. It is the body that governs the affairs of student body through Student Congress. Student Congress is made up of all ASB, class, and club representatives. They oversee all school related Activities, fundraisers, and expenditures. 2. What are some examples of what Student Congress (ASB) does for the school?ASB approves the creation of new clubs, runs Homecoming, Trojan Pride Gifts, and assemblies. They also make recommendations to Site Counsel to spend API money. That money goes to repainting the hallways and activities around campus. ASB paid for our American Flag. Student Congress decided to revise the schools constitution last year and write letters in opposition to the District Sports League Realignment. They attend Rotary meetings, invited the Polio Plus Program to do a presentation at the school, reorganized the school's checking and saving's account, and most importantly fostered a new relationship with our school rival, Portola High School. ASB works closely with school administration, relating items by concern. Many issues regarding the school are discussed and resolved with the input of ASB and the administration. The administration also relates ASB's wishes and opinions to the PUSD Superintendent and Board of Trustees. 3. When are the Student Congress meetings? The meetings are held, constitutionally, once a month; however, they often meet more frequently. The meetings are traditionally held on Thursday's during 7th period in Mr. Thomas's classroom.
