Dress Code (Board Policy 5132)
Each school shall allow students to wear sun-protective
clothing, including, but not limited to, hats for outdoor use during the day and
must provide for the use of sunscreen by students during the school day.
(Education Code 35183.5)
In addition, the following guidelines shall apply to all regular
school activities:
- 1. Shoes must be worn at all times. Shoes must have heel straps at
elementary and middle schools.
- 2. Clothing, jewelry, and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym
bags, water bottles, etc.) shall be free of writing, pictures or any other
insignia which are crude, vulgar, profane, or sexually suggestive, which bear
drug, alcohol or tobacco company advertising, promotions and likenesses, or
which advocate racial, ethnic or religious prejudice. No unsafe jewelry. At
elementary school – no makeup.
- 3. Hats, caps and other head coverings shall not be worn indoors. (Site
optional)
- 4. Chains, spikes, and metal studs will be prohibited at all times.
- 5. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times.
See-through or fishnet fabrics, halter-tops, off the shoulder or low-cut tops,
bare midriffs and sagging pants are prohibited. Skirts must reach a minimum of
mid-thigh. Shorts must have a minimum of a three-inch inseam.
- 6. Gym shorts may not be worn in classes other than physical education.
- 7. Hair shall be clean, neatly groomed, and not a distraction to the
education process.
- 8. Staff may impose more stringent dress requirements that accommodate the
special needs of certain sports and/or classes.
