Homecoming 2005

By Kayli Vallely

Homecoming week is traditionally a time for people to celebrate school spirit, and to enjoy watching football. This year at Quincy High, Spirit Week, which accompanies Homecoming, occurred October 10th through the 14th, culminating with the Homecoming football game on Friday night.
Throughout the week, students and staff at QHS attended two pep rallies, and also enjoyed dressing up according to various themes. The theme of the freshman class was Disney, and their hallway was decorated with Disney Movie cases, hand-drawn posters of the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, as well as the teapot and candelabra from Beauty and the Beast. The Sophomore’s class theme was Rock and Roll, and they decorated their hallway with pictures of CD covers, as well as pictures of their nominee for queen (Maria Boland). The Junior’s class theme was Hollywood, and the Junior class decorated the cafeteria with pictures of movie covers, as well as stars with the classes’ names on them. Finally, the Senior class theme was Star Wars, and their hallway was decorated with Star Wars memorabilia, as well as a replica the runner which plays at the beginning of the Star Wars movies.  The Sophomores won the Best Hallway Award, for their presentation of the Rock and Roll theme.
The Spirit Week dress up days this year were Pajama Day on Monday, Sports Day on Tuesday, Holiday Day on Wednesday, Theme Day on Thursday, and Red and White Day on Friday.
The Sophomores won Best Arch Award, and the Senior class won the award for Best Skit. However, it was decided that the Juniors won overall. At the football game, on Friday October 14th, both of QHS’s teams won against Portola. The Varsity team conquered the Tigers with a score of 43-18, while the Junior Varsity’s score was 12-8.
The senior class Queen candidate was Catherine Vogt, and her escort was Sergio Marquez. The junior class queen was Jenna Kuipers, and her escort was Grant Hedrick. The sophomore class queen was Maria Boland, and her escort was Erik Halverson. The freshman queen was Lindsey Anderson, and her escort was Cody Anderson. The junior class’s princess candidate was Hannah Wayland, and her escort was Jared West. Kylie Redkey was the sophomore class princess, and her escort was Chase Redkey. Cheyanne Lanouette was the freshman candidate, and her escort was Taylor Stine. The Homecoming Queen for Homecoming 2005 is senior Maria Boland, and the Princess is Junior Hanna Wayland.
Homecoming is a fun time to celebrate the teams at our school, and to enjoy school spirit. This year’s eventful Homecoming week was enjoyable for all.
