*The New Arrivals at Quincy High*

By Ebonie Hill

The Staff at Quincy High School has some newcomers this year. They include Mrs. Bordeaux, Mrs. Coombs, Dr. Rubalcava and Mr. Kelsch. Quincy student body would like to welcome these four fine teachers to our school.
Mrs. Coombs is the new health and P.E. teacher at QHS. Mrs. Coombs describes herself as an excited, energetic, and athletic person. She was born in the Bay Area, but was raised in Quincy, CA. She went to this very same school! Her number one teacher was Mr. Ray, because" "he always made biology interesting and accessible." When Mrs. Coomb’s graduated high school, she went to Cal Stat Northridge College for her teaching degree. After graduating, Coombs decided to settle down and have a family of her own. She has three boys named J.B., Connor and Cameron and is married to a police officer named Steve. This is Mrs. Coombs first year teaching, so all you jokesters save your best ones for next year. We don’t want to scare her just yet.
Mrs. Bordeaux is our new history and English teacher. Mrs. Bordeaux is the temporary teacher for Mrs. Bequette while she is out on maternity leave. Bordeaux describes herself as a very, very old person. She was born in Marysville, CA and was raised in Yuba City. After Bordeaux graduated from high school she went to Chico State for her teaching degree. Mrs. Bordeaux has been teaching for 34 years and loves it. In all the years she’s been teaching, her biggest pet peeves are students who do not care and are not prepared for class. She has no children of her own and is not married. On her free time she loves to read, sew and do volunteer work. Her favorite food is chocolate. Mrs. Bordeaux is only at QHS for one quarter, so lets make her feel welcome.
Dr. Rubalcava is the new art, world history and success teacher. Dr. Rubalcava came here from a full time job as tenured professor at Truckee Community College in Reno, NV. Rubalcava decries
herself as an intense achievement oriented person. She was born in an apartment in San Jose, CA in 1962 and was raised in the Bay Area. After she graduated high school, she went to U.C Berkeley to get her B.A. Development studies. Next Dr. Rubalcava went to Stanford University to get her M.A. in Education and her single subject teaching credential in social studies. After Stanford she taught for a while at a local school. Then she went back to U.C Berkley for he PH.D in Education. To get her PH.D, it took her seven years. Her biggest pet peeves are; when students disrupt learning, either their own or other’s. She likes it when students try their best to engage in the learning activity before them. After Dr. Rubalcava finished up with school, she decided to settle down and start a family. Rubalcava is happily married with three boys- Luis, Che, and Miles. On her spare time she enjoys panting, writing for publication, hiking, running, and spending time with her family. Dr. Rubalcava likes many varieties of foods. One of her favorites is healthy food. She also likes Mexican food, especially corn tortillas and chicken calda. Dr. Rubalcava loves what she does, so let’s try to keep it that way.
