Rodeo Time

By Natalie Feinblum, and Jake

Students it’s time to grab the bull by its horns.  Yee-haw!!!!!!! It’s rodeo time!  Get ready to dig your spurs into the world of rodeo. Some people think that rodeo sports are pointless and only full of dust, mud, and cowboy hats.  But, rodeo sports are in fact,  gut wrenching sports fit for only the toughest competitors.  Rodeo is a mix of spins, slides, bucking steers and even the occasional appearance of clowns.

For the people who think these sports are easy, think again! Bull riding requires finesse and precision. Probably the most difficult aspect of bull riding is for the rider to get the spurs over the bull strap at the first buck. The rider must grab hold of the handle strap balancing with their leading hand.  After that, the rider’s only objective is to stay on the bull and beat the time judges by staying on for at least 8 seconds.  Time judges are judges who time the participants.

This goes for bronco busting, too.

Bronco busting is almost the exact same sport, only instead of a bull, one rides a horse.

Pole bending is an extremely exhilarating sport, known for its balance, twists and turns, and sliding stops.   Bobbing and weaving in and out of specially formatted polls protruding up from the ground is the action for horses when poll bending is in motion.  The rider’s challenge in this extreme sport is to keep balanced while the horse is maneuvering in and out of the polls. It’s exceedingly important for the rider to keep balanced. Sometimes the horses can have so much adrenalin that when they turn around the polls

the rider may nick their knees on the mud-dredged ground of the arena.   The rider must not only stay balanced, but also must have quick reflexes in order to direct and correct the horse’s mistakes. Points

will be added to your score if you knock down these specially

formatted poles.  These are only a few events of this sport. There are many others, such as barrel racing, roping, and cutting. In conclusion, the rodeo is known for its difficulty, and only the toughest athletes are able to compete.  So if you set your aspirations high and you dare to dream big, this sport may be for you!
