Lunch By Ourselves

 By Haley Sills
At QHS last year the tenth through the twelfth grade got off campus lunch; while the seventh and 8th grade had on campus lunch. This year a few changes have been made, including the seventh graders switching to Quincy Elementary School. The ninth graders get off campus lunch so the eighth graders are by themselves during lunch.
Eighth grader, Heather Gordon says, “On-campus lunch is very boring and there aren’t many people.” The main eighth grade opinion is that “we are being treated unfairly.”
During the last off campus lunch day we as eighth graders proved ourselves mature enough to handle the privilege. Most of the eighth grade has proven themselves worthy enough to handle this responsibility. If questionable behavior is a major problem with a few students should all be held back for one person’s mistake?
Many students have complained, and even asked Mr. Gallagher if the eighth grade class were to present a petition with sufficient parent and student signatures if he would consider letting us have off campus lunch. During lunch, this question was proposed to Mr. Gallagher and he said, “It probably wouldn’t work.”

Many students in the eighth grade say that is impossible to get off campus lunch because it has been like this for years. Students might wonder if this change would bring about many problems, and if so what are they? For now the eighth grade still hopes for a change.

Ask Ellie

Dear Ellie,
A guy asked me out today. I really think he is cool and everything, it’s just that I don’t like him like that. I do like him as a friend though, and don’t want to lose that relationship with him. I know I need to tell him how I feel, I just don’t know how to tell him without hurting his feelings.
                                                               Sincerely, Deeply Confused

Dear Deeply Confused,
You are right; you do need to let him know how you feel. If you don’t you could end up hurting him even more, because he might end up getting the wrong impression. You can’t worry about how he is going to react. You just have to do the right thing for yourself. You have to see that it is the best thing for both of you.
                                                                 Sincerely, Ellie

Rocker of Today

By Harvey Jackson

People have a wide variety of music they like to listen to these days: rock, rap, hip-hop, and many more. One well-liked rock band is Green Day.
The lead vocalist of the band and player of guitar is Billie Joe Armstrong. Backing him up with the bass guitar is Mike Dirnt, and with the drums is Tre Cool. They have been performing since the 90’s and have six or seven albums out. A few are: (Dookie, Nimrod, International Super hits, American Idiot), and more. When Matt Rouse’s feelings were asked about the band. He replied, "I like the band. My favorite songs are ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ and ‘Holiday’ both on the CD American Idiot." Many people liked songs on their newest album American Idiot.
Later Alan Tahara was asked what he thought of Green Day, and what his favorite album and songs are. He said, "I think that Green Day is a pretty good band. Not my favorite, but I like them a lot. My favorite songs would have to be
‘When September Ends’ on the CD American Idiot, also on there latest CD.
Green Day is a band well known to many people and has been around for more than a decade, and hopefully many more years to come. Their fans are spread throughout the world hoping and waiting for that next album to come.

It’s Here, It’s Here!

Wooohooo! Isn’t it just great?  Winter break is almost here, the snow’s coming and there is a handful of activities waiting for you.  Lots of the kids in school have been in great anticipation for Winter Break.  It reminds many of the 8th graders of the good old days and the fun they had before school started.  Now that the snow is here so what are you going to do, got a clue?
Let's start with snowball fights.  Now you can throw a snowball at somebody and not get in trouble while at school you can.  You could do that or go take a hike and enjoy the view. Do whatever you want.  But we cannot forget the activity that provides endless fun, snowboarding.
According to Andrew Murphy, “I definitely plan on going snowboarding, it’s the best thing to do in the winter.”  Lots of people said the same thing. Take for instance Allen Tahara he also plans on going snowboarding. Both are very popular things to do in this school.
This winter will probably end up a good one like the last one and it will probably be a good one for snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling.  It’s the top athletic thing to do, and snowboarding is a great way to relax, get rid of school, and enjoy yourself. Who knows? Maybe if get good at it you may be able to join a team and do it with other people, now that our break is here. So let’s kick back and make the most of it.

This is the 8th grade Computer Applications class. They learn keyboarding skills, how to search the Internet easily, word skills, and Web editing.
