The New Agriculture Teacher

Above: Tamsen DeForest, the new Agriculture teacher.

By Kinderlin Mannies

Have you noticed a new face on campus, the one that is always smiling and saying good morning? Well, her name is Tamsen DeForest. She is Quincy High School’s new Agriculture teacher. She is full of spunk and new ideas for the Agriculture department.
Deforest grew up in Big Valley on a cattle ranch, where she started to love agriculture. She wanted to do something to support and promote agriculture, so she decided to be an Agriculture teacher. She has a strong background in agriculture and FFA, and hopes to help Quincy High learn more about animal science and be more active in the Agriculture department.
Ms. Deforest went to school at UNR (University of Nevada, Reno) for five years; she graduated with a Bachelor degree of Science in Agricultural Education. She then began as a substitute teacher in Reno for a year, and was a student teacher in Loyalton for two months. Teaching at QHS is her first actual teaching job. She is excited to be the new Agriculture teacher and FFA advisor.
DeForest says, "My number one goal this year is to survive the school year and not make too many mistakes. I would like to get more involved in FFA, attend some conferences and competitions and have some fair projects."
As you can see, this new teacher has a lot of things to accomplish in her first year of teaching, so if you see her in the halls or around town introduce yourself. Let’s welcome this new teacher into our high school and community!
