Virtual Enterprise, Continued.
March 16th, the QHS VE company
Custom Cruisers celebrated their grand opening. The event offered community
members, teachers, and students the chance to see the yearlong efforts of
the class and go on a “Virtual Shopping Spree”. Over 40 guests visited the
classroom and talked with the company’s “employees,” enjoyed refreshments
and spent virtual bucks.
Next year’s Virtual Enterprise class will get to decide on a
new and different business. This spring the VE class will be inviting
students to participate in a spending spree and orientation of the class to
educate students about this unique opportunity.
Congratulations to QHS’s Virtual Enterprise team! |

All Fools Day
April Fools Day, a seemingly useless
holiday, has no exact date of origin. Some Quincy High students believe that
April Fools Day was thought up by a bunch of idiotic jesters from the early
renaissance as a way to pull harmless pranks without repercussion. Although
this idea is comical, it is not entirely true. The closest pinpointed year
of origin is around 1582, in France. The year prior to that New Years was
celebrated for eight days starting on the 20th or 21st
of March. They held the feast of annunciation on the 25th of
March, the vernal equinox. April 1st, being the highlight of
these festivities was continued as a celebration.
April 1st is
celebrated as a holiday for the simple fact that Charles IX introduced the
Gregorian calendar to his public on that day in 1582. The Gregorian calendar
moved the first day of every year following to the 1st of
January. In those days the only mode of transportation was by foot, making
an official announcement take many years of hearsay and gossip to be as well
known as it is. The people who ostracized themselves by continuing to
celebrate the New Year on April 1st were automatically labeled as
“fools” (hence the name April fools day).
Mexico actually has a
counter-holiday that was celebrated on the 28th of December. This
celebration once had a somber feeling in regard and remembrance of the
slaughtering of guiltless children by King Herod. Eventually this memorial
holiday changed into a zenatocious
holiday filled with humorous practical jokes followed by the occasional
ejaculation of “APRIL FOOL”.
Pranks are now a national past time. Ranging from pranks
as simple as “Your shoe’s untied” to pretend puke or dog poo (not
recommended). Whatever the prank, it can always be justified with the
words…APRIL FOOLS.
1.zenatocious (ly)- v. adj. n. SUPER
Someone or something with a cool
laid back aura and/or appearance.

St. Patrick’s day
facts
By Kenzie Davis
ST. PATRICK
-
St. Patrick was born into a wealthy
family, but then slave raiders from Ireland attacked his village and he
was captured. He was sent to the (at the time) Pagan Island with other
slaves. While living a life of tending sheep for a king, St. Patrick
turned his life to god. After Six years of being in captivity he was set
free. He returned to his homeland of Ireland and started preaching the
word of god. During his thirty years back in Ireland, St. Patrick founded
around 300 churches and baptized over 120,000 people. St. Patrick escaped
12 attempted deaths and died of a natural cause on March 17, 461.
-
The first St. Patrick’s day was publicly
celebrated in Boston, in the year 1737.
FUN FACTS
-
Leprechauns are sly sneaky creatures who
make the fairies’ shoes. They tend to get into a lot of trouble. If you
ever catch one you get its gold; but beware- if you look away from it, it
can run away from you with its treasure.
-
The color green is important this time of
year to Ireland because it is the color of the shamrock, Ireland, and
spring. Irish school children pinch those who do not wear the color on St.
Patrick’s Day.
-
Shamrocks are a symbol of St. Patrick’s
Day because he used a three-leafed shamrock to represent how the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are of one body.
