Sports
By Hannah West
As everyone is well aware, the eight grade is not a
part of the sports for the rest of the school such as junior varsity and
varsity. So of the ones that do sports we are a part of the REC Department.
For the time being, in basketball, we play with little fans. “I like to have
fans watching and supporting the team, screaming gets my adrenaline
pumping!” According to an anonyms eight grader.
When asked why people like playing basketball, various
people said that, because of the adrenalin that you get while playing;
staying in good shape, and it’s just something fun to do.
So what about softball and baseball? Basketball had
just recently ended and now soon enough softball and baseball are starting.
“I think that softball is the best sport to play! Everyone gets into it and
it’s just a great sport to play,” says K.D Drybread. Many students said the
baseball/softball is overall just entertaining to watch and play, but it’s
also fun to hang out with your friends while staying in shape. This is only
two of many reasons listed by a lot of the 8th grade girls and
boys.
So officially
when you think about softball and baseball now those of you who don’t play
everyone insists that you really should give it a chance. It will end up
being very fulfilling to play.

5 Easy Steps to Good Grades
By Marisa Pfenning
Getting good grades isn’t that hard, as long as you
try. Just do your work, stay on task, pay attention, study hard and get as
much help as you need. Always be confident in yourself and never doubt what
you do in class!
Step One: First of all, PAY ATTENTION! Watch,
and participate in the lessons that your teachers set up for the class.
Never just blow off the lesson just because you think you already know it.
Trust me, if you don’t have very good grades, you probably don’t truly know
the lessons. “If you pay attention, you WILL know how to do the work.” Says
eighth grader Hannah Morrow.
Step Two: TAKE NOTES! Even if you don’t have
to, try to at least write a little down about what is going on in class.
That way, when a test comes along you’ll have something to look over and
study. This will only increase your chances of passing the test. And then
your grades will come up (at least a little). “ By taking a lot of notes, I
get better grades on my tests, and I know I will go further in life.” Eighth
grader Hannah West advises.

Step Three: DO
YOUR WORK! When the teacher assigns something just do it. Rather than
putting it off until later, do the assignment when you’re supposed to.
Everyone knows that when you put some thing off until later, it will keep
being put off until later and that will most definitely bring your grades
down.
Step Four: DON’T BE SCARED! Never be afraid to ask for help. It
doesn’t mean you’re dumb if you don’t get something. Asking for help
actually means your smart and that you can only get smarter!
Step Five: BE CONFIDENT! Never assume that you’re going to
get a bad grade on your assignments and tests. Always assume that
you’re going to get a good grade because then you have more appreciation for
the work your doing.
Well, that’s all for
now. I hope my tips will help you in your future.

Sports:
Football and Basketball
By Katheryne Drybread
A survey was conducted among the eighth grade class. Here are the
results. When asked, “What is your favorite professional sport?” Most of the
eighth graders said that football was their favorite professional sport.
Basketball was the second favorite sport.
According to Chaysel, a former eighth grader says that
football is her favorite professional sport because it is an exciting and
action packed sport. It is amazing to her how dedicated and focused
football players can be. According to Kim, another former eighth grader,
basketball is her favorite sport because it is fun to watch and play. It is
exciting to her because she loves to watch her brother play on the varsity
team.
Football and basketball are both
played by kids 5 years and older. A long time ago football was called
soccer because they used their foot to kick a ball. Football was also
played by Indians but used different rules than ours.
So if children or teenagers want to play a year or more the
Recreation Department is where to go. So therefore football and basketball
are the best sports and young children would love to play either football or basketball.
