My Words

By anonymous
My words grow in size
but as the moon grows fuller
my words grow weaker
the words of desperation and determination
to live and thrive
but my words grow darker
and die
as my soul dies
I grow only more desperate...
for life and love.

Guess Who?

By Hannah Morrow

Hey everyone! It’s time for this month’s mystery person!  Okay, this girl is 5’4”, she has medium brown eyes and light brown hair that comes an inch or two past her shoulders.  Her birthday is July 12, 1991 and she is 14 years old.  Her favorite number is 15 and her favorite color is blue.  She lives part time with her mom in Quincy, and the other part with her dad in Greenhorn.  In her spare time, she likes to talk on the phone, hang out with friends, play sports and talk on the Internet.  Her favorite TV show is Laguna Beach and her two favorite movies are Madagascar and The Notebook.  She loves all sports, but the three that she likes the most are basketball, snowboarding, and soccer.  Even though she loves staying active, her favorite subject in school is math.  She loves all kinds of music, especially Country and R&B. Four of the many artists she likes are T-Pain, Chris Brown, Natalie, and Rascal Flatts.
I hope I didn’t give too much away. Good luck on finding out who is this month’s mystery person!

What Now?

By Natalie Ray

This is Mrs. Coombs’s first year teaching at Quincy High School, when asked what her favorite part of teaching P.E. is she said she loves reading the students journals and hearing that she made a difference in someone’s life who usually wouldn’t play sports. The students realize how fun sports can be and improve their performance dramatically.  She commented that she thinks all of the drama is a distraction from learning and is emotionally destructive.  We asked her what her favorite sport to teach is and she answered basketball, it is fun and energetic.  When asked if she likes teaching eighth grade she answered yeah, I love their energy.  When asked if Mrs. Coombs found it hard to replace to former teacher she said, of course, she was a wonderful lady and teacher.  The next question was, would you rather teach boys P.E.?  She answered sometimes but I love working with the girls.
Mrs. Coombs’s attended Quincy High School so we decided to ask her how she felt about teaching at the same she school she attended.  She said she really enjoys it and it boosts her school spirit because she really feels like a Trojan.  She also said she has always loved this school.
Well that’s all she had to say!

School Survival

By Ashley Irving

There are many challenges in high school, but there are a few things that you can do to survive school. Here are a few tips. According to Rosey West she doesn’t know how she survives.
One of the most important things that will help you survive school is getting good grades. Most people think that it is hard to get good grades but the main thing that will help you is to do most of the work. If you set aside an hour after school everyday to do home work you will be surprised how much you can get accomplished.
Teachers are always telling how important test are but really you just need to not worry too much about it and spend a little time studying and you will be passing most of them. When you are studying it helps to study in sections and then take small breaks. By doing this you will not get all of the facts mixed up. After doing these simple things, and paying attention in class you will be surprised in the improvement of your grades. Natalie Ray says that paying attention is a key way to keep good grades. There is more to school than just getting good grades, but for the rest of that stuff you might want to ask Ellie.

What Now?

By Chaysel Hatzell

Wow, can you believe that basketball is already over? So, now you might be wondering what some other sports that are available to eight graders that want to be active during the spring. Well, softball and baseball are coming up soon. To sing up for either one of these sports you can go to the recreational department, located by Pioneer Park.
When asked about their plans for spring sports, Mckynzie Brock replied, “ I plan to play softball this spring in preparation for high school softball.” “ I enjoy softball because the thrill and excitement of the competition is exhilarating.”
Another Quincy High eighth grade student replied, “ I look forward to participating in baseball this year!” “ I plan on working harder than previous years in order to prepare for next years high school JV tryouts were I hope to make the QHS team.” This student requested to be anonymous.
Softball has not always been popular to the younger audience but recently it has not only been accepted in this society, but also has been proven to be and extremely positive influence to young adults. However, baseball has not only been around for hundreds of years but has also been very popular in fact it has been nominated as most popular sport watched and played in the United States of America.
