It’s time
to cheer! The cheerleading squad is here. There was a workshop every Monday
after school, which will continue to be on Thursday, for the future
cheerleaders. The cheerleading workshop is designed to teach the basics to
the young ladies that will be trying out on May 1st through the 5th.
“In the
workshop, students learned cheers, jumps, and kicks,” says QHS cheerleader
Rachel Davis. However, the workshop focused on cheers. The current
cheerleaders taught some of the workshop.
In the tryouts
the potential cheerleaders
will perform a dance together. The students who do well during the dance
will become cheerleaders. Additionally, the students are required to make up
an eight-count dance that they will be graded on. When asked what she wants
the girls to learn from cheerleading, Rachel Davis said, “School spirit and
new friends”. The current cheerleaders are very excited about the turnout of
the workshop.

To receive
an academic award is a well-earned achievement. Those who receive it know
that it is not easy to get. One has to work very hard and at the same time
be responsible for his or her work and make good use of his or her time. On
March 2nd Quincy High honored those students who achieved
academic excellence during the spring of ’05 & fall of ’06.
The event took place in the cafeteria. Entertainment was provided
by the Jazz Band led by Mr. Gilberti. There was an array of desserts
concocted by the culinary arts class.
Mrs.
Bequette and Mr. Gallagher handed out the awards. In all there was about 120
students who received an academic award.
This event
was sponsored by: Sierra Pacific Industries, Rotary Club, QHS Boosters,
Plumas County Sheriff’s Department, and the Plumas National Forest Employee
Association.
There was a raffle, and gift
certificates from businesses like Body & Soul, Pizza Factory, Town Hall
Theater, and Carey’s Candy CO. were awarded.
Although some people believe that receiving an academic
award is an honor, others believe it is just a symbol of hard work. Yet some
believe it is both. They believe that it does take hard work, but also that
by working hard you are showing pride in the work that you do and honoring
yourself by achieving this goal of an academic award.
Although it is
difficult, there are a lot of students working hard and taking pride in our
school, and you can too. Take pride in your school and your work.
