Drama Class to Ashland
By Paige
Connell
The QHS drama class took its annual trip to Ashland this
year! Terry Gallagher, QHS’s drama teacher, has been taking drama students
to Ashland for 26 years. This time, the dates of the trip fell on the 22nd,
23rd, and 24th of March. The purpose is for the drama
students to see productions put on during the Oregon Shakespeare Festival,
though not all the plays are Shakespearian works—in fact, this time, two out
of the three plays that the class saw were not works of Shakespeare.
The class saw The Importance of Being Earnest, a comedy by
Oscar Wilde; The Diary of Anne Frank, based on the true story; and
A Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare. All of the plays were very well
done. Mrs. Redkey, who accompanied the class on their trip, says her
favorite play was A Winter’s Tale: “I was mesmerized,” she says.
Kelsey West said, “The Importance of Being Earnest was my favorite
play! Mostly because I didn’t understand the movie and the play explained
the story.” Katie Wilken, a senior, said that her favorite play was The
Diary of Anne Frank. Katie continued, “The lady who played Anne was
fantastic!”
Many people seem to think that shopping was a major highlight
of the Ashland trip. One student said, “Ashland has some great shops.”
Another student added, “It was a blast being able to go into the stores and
dressing up like someone else.”
It sounds like those students lucky enough to go to Ashland had a
blast! |

The Pink Panther Strikes
Again
By Brittney Burkhead
April 6th, 7th
and 8th the drama class put on The Pink Panther. It was
directed by Mrs. Gallagher and Mrs. Carroll. During the three days,
approximately 475 people attended. The drama class made a total of $2,896 in
ticket sales. Most of this money will go to their fieldtrips, Great America
and Ashland. Other money will go to drama supplies.
Mrs. Gallagher was very pleased with the play. “It had a great
script and very funny cast,” says Mrs. Gallagher. One of her favorite scenes
was the dentist scene with Taylor Stine and Josh Carroll. She also thought
the assassin scene was very clever.
There were also some challenges to putting on the production. Mrs.
Gallagher said, “There are always challenges to work rehearsal around all of
the schedules from dance to work to sports.”
Overall the performance was a success. The students and community
laughed a lot during the play, and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
